North Country Fishing Report

The ice fishing season is officially upon us! Here’s what is happening around the northland!

North Central ND/Turtle Mountains

Clay Houle with CnZ guide service has started ice fishing. He’s finding anywhere from 1-4 inches of ice on area lakes earlier this week. Looking at the forecast high temps will stay in the 20’s with lows hitting negative temps! He expects to be able to take ATVs and side-by-sides out by the coming weekend, the 19th/20th. Ice is not safe on Devils Lake yet but it’s forming fast. Ice conditions can change quickly depending on the weather, give Clay a call before heading up to get the most current conditions.

Red Lake / Bemidji area

Upper Red lake has a small sheet on the east shoreline, going out a couple of hundred yards. Resorts will likely be letting people out by thanksgiving weekend. Good ice-making weather is forecasted, as long as the area doesn’t receive too much snow. Smaller area lakes locked up last Monday night, with about 3-4 inches of snow on top. Red Lake Guide John Seelye is hoping to be guiding for brook trout through the ice Thanksgiving weekend!

Lake of The Woods

Right now there is ice in the Warroad area about 200yrds out. It’s not safe by any means but we are looking good so far. Ice is fairly smooth at this point but that can all change with the wind. I’m guessing we will be taking wheelers and or snowmobiles out around the first week or two of December. Aaron Phillipe True North Guide Service (218) 452-0612
