Legislative Hearing on H.R. 6917, H.R. 8473 and H.R. 8954
The House Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs is holding a legislative hearing on bills affecting tribal homelands, Indian health and economic development
Three bills are on the agenda for the hearing on Tuesday afternoon. They follow:
H.R.8473, the Veterinary Services to Improve Public Health in Rural Communities Act. The bill authorizes the Indian Health Service to issue funds to tribes for public health veterinary services and to enter into self-determination contracts for the same purpose.
H.R.8954, the Tribal Regulatory Reform Implementation Act of 2026. The bill transfers certain tribal economic development programs from the Department of Commerce to the Department of the Interior (DOI). More specifically, the Regulatory Reform and Business Development on Indian Lands Authority, a panel of tribal and business leaders that examines barriers to economic development in Indian Country, will be overseen by DOI.
The hearing takes place at 2pm Eastern in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. The witness list follows:
