Hopi Culture Stewards: Community, Communication, and Resource Protection

The Hopi Tribe, along with several others in northeastern Arizona, is hoping a proposed $5 billion settlement in Congress can bring relief to the water-parched region.

Hopi people have long grappled with clean water access, encountering persistent hurdles for both quantity and quality. Some have to haul water to their homes. Others have to contend with contamination from uranium mining and other pollutants. [Congress.Gov: S.935, the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Act of 2025]
