Two leaders in urban Indian health are attending President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress as guests of Democratic lawmakers.

Walter Murillo, the CEO of Native Health in Arizona, is attending as a guest of Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Arizona). Murillo, who is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation, also serves as president of the board of the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH).

“I am honored to be Congressman Stanton’s guest for the Joint Session of Congress,” Murillo said in a NCUIH news release on Tuesday. “He has been a steadfast champion for Native health of Phoenix and for Native communities throughout Arizona.”

I’m bringing @NativeHealthPHX CEO Walter Murillo as my guest to President Trump’s Joint Address tonight. Native Health has served thousands of patients at their community health centers, and many of those patients rely on Medicaid to pay for their treatment.

“I am deeply honored to be Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury’s guest at the Joint
Session of Congress,” Son-Stone said. “Congresswoman Stansbury has been a tireless and unwavering advocate for our Native communities.”

Our communities’ voices must be heard. That’s why I invited Dr. Linda Son-Stone, CEO of First Nations Community HealthSource, as my guest for tonight’s joint address to Congress.
